After several weeks of anticipation, and a helpful call to CarbsOnly by SlantSix Dan, my special-order choke arrived. This is for the Carter BBS.
With a little luck I'll have a chance to put it in tomorrow.

In reading over the instructions, it looks like the critical thing is to install it so that there is absolutlely no binding in the linkage (true for any choke I imagine). Also, I see where they recommend that any dial adjustments be made 1 increment at a time, with observations made from a cold start. The starting point for this carb (and a Holley single barrel too) is the center detent.

The hot-spot they recommend for the sensor is the manifold bolt closest to the firewall.

If anyone wants pictures let me know. Not sure yet if differs from the 2 BBL choke that Dan posted previously. I can also scan the instructions if there is interest.

Has anyone else used one of these? Any wisdom to pass on? I am a novice but am learning by necessity.

Do not attach the heat sensor to any of the manifold studs! This will interfere with the proper sealing of the manifolds, and will cook the sensor.

Instead, start out by trying one of the threaded holes atop the cylinder head, between the valve cover and the manifold surface. Scrape it clean to get a good ground, and have the heat sensor hanging towards the driver's side so that it can pick up manifold heat.

Note that my kit (pictures posted previously) came completely unadjusted; there was no spring tension at all on the choke pushrod. I had to loosen the dial clampscrew and rotate the housing in the "rich" direction through a little more than a complete turn until the pushrod had spring tension and the dial notch was opposite the centre index mark. There are no detents, just hash marks (like ignition timing marks) so you have to eyeball it straight-on. Just mentioning this so you don't get everything all installed, find the choke won't close, and wonder what's the trouble.

Wouldn't mind seeing pictures of your equipment and setup!
