| Post subject: | brake line selection for axle swap |
I swapped in the 8 3/4 axle from the 7 1/4, and I still have the drum brakes. ('75 duster 3-speed floor) is there any differences in these lines? I want to buy all new lines for the car. I have heard to just buy separate kits (say a 75 set for the front and a 73 for the rear) and I have also heard there is no difference in the set. any suggestions? |

If you have swapped in an 8 & 3/4 (last year for A Bodies 72), there were basically 2 different rear ends as far as brake lines were concerned. The difference was where the junction block on the rear end was located. The earlier (IIRC) had the block located fairly close to the pumpkin area and the later were more on the axle tube area. This affects the length of the driver's side line. I don't remember the exact year cut-off. I ordered a set of each at last years Nats from Fine Lines and they fit the respective rear end perfectly. |

my block (need a new one of them too) was located farther out on the shaft. ............what is "IIRC"? the axle was a swap meet item, so I don't know its origin. for $200 I got a 3.23 sure grip+ axle and 4 rims. I have heard good things about inline tube, haven't checked out fine lines yet. any thoughts on the set up to purchase? anyone else ran into this issue? |

so, basically, just measure the thing and I will have a better idea of what year she is. so, which is the better place to go, inline or fine line for the brakes? |

My suggestion: do NOT get them from inline tube. I bought lines for my 8 3/4" after upgrading from a 7 1/4". They sent me a "T" fitting instead of a Y fitting where the two lines join together. The T fitting did not work, they were at the wrong angles. Called them up, they told me to just bend the lines to make them fit. Told them I paid for new lines because they were supposed to be direct fit. They didn't budge. Made ME pay for the difference in price and for shipping between Y fitting and T fitting. When the Y fitting came, they still didn't fit. I ended up using the long section of tube that came with the kit for the passenger side, and took off the old drivers side tube from 7 1/4" and "massaged" it to fit. That was a complete waste of $50..... I'd suggest finelines, dealt with them before on other projects. Can't vouch for their brake lines in specific but fitment on other things was good. |

Fine Lines brake lines all fit as advertised; including axle, engine compartment and front to rear line. |
