My father-in-law has this old tach/dwell meter, but he forgot how to use it. I want to use it's tach function, while I do some timing and tuning. It has instructions on the back label that says to clip the red positive lead to the "primary terminal of the distributor" and the black to ground. What should I clip the red line to? Does it work by induction through the coil wire, like a timing gun does through a plug wire? If it makes any difference, the Dart has electronic ignition.

+ on the coil IIRC.

Hook the red to the "+" terminal of the coil. It isn't inductive, so it has to make solid electrical contact.

Great, that's what I suspected, but just wanted to make sure.

Thanks,
