 Post subject: any way to dye a top?

i just bought this car about 3 months ago and now that it's 107* outside my top is starting to burn. is there a way to dye it brown to match the spotting? or is there kits to replace the tops? thanks for your help.

If I where you, I will get a new top, I don´t think that old one even if you dye it again will hold againts sun

I take it you're referring to a vinyl top, not a convertible one?

You can redye vinyl (see my armrest thread), but if the vinyl itself has begun to perish, the fix will be very short-term, probably not worth the money and effort you'll put into it.

Vinyl doesn't generally fare well after years in the hot sun. Vinyl tops can be replaced, but you might want to think about simply deleting the vinyl top altogether...

is there paint from the factory on the top under the vinyl? also, how do you safely take the vinyl off? i think your right Slant Six Dan, for what it would cost to have a new top put on (yes, it's a hard top), i could have the whole car painted. thanks.

Yes, there is paint under the vinyl, but between paint and vinyl is the glue, here we removed vinyl top just prying a part and then pulling the vinyl.

ok... so is there anyway to take the vinyl off, take the glue off, and buff out the paint to where is looks ok? thanks.
