Post subject: | Lowering 64 Dart |
Im a newb so Im sure that there are some threads on doing a front drop on a convertible Dart gt but I couldnt find them. If not how do I go about doing so(lowering it)? Im not used to not having some spring to cut... |

You have a torsion bar front suspension, so ride height changes can be made by adjusting the preload of the torsion bar.............. |

But you can't go to low before you start to have some serious handling problems. Hmmm, a topless slant, nice headlights ![]() |

how much could I drop it? I mean my mom has a 63 convertible valiant and shes dropped it and it makes mine look like a 4x4 when sitting next to it. I want to be able to drive it so I kinda need the steering to work well too.. |

You can easily drop the front of the car by 2 to 3" with adjustment of the T-bars. This should not effect the handling at all. |

Tire size will factor in to this also, check your mom's ride out & compare, I know my 205/70/14 on my 62 made it look huge next to some 175/70/13's on a 65. Just food for thought!!!!!! V |

The adjuster bolt is in the lower control arm, at the torsion bar end. The head is visible from underneath. Take the weight off the torsion bar before trying to adjust. Please be careful, and understand what you're doing. Suspensions are very sophisticated, and small changes can have serious impact. You'll need to carefully measure ride height before and after. It can be tough to keep the ride height and preload correct, and both change the way the car handles. Don't go nuts with the changes, and have it aligned afterwards. |

The factory service manual will have thorough instructions on how to do this. |

Assuming it's similar to my '72 Swinger, there should be a bolt head pointed straight down at the ground in the middle of each lower control arm. You may not be able to see it, depending on how far it's turned (it will rise higher into the control arm the more it's turned). Depending on when it was last adjusted, you may need a a breaker bar to turn it, and a (short) extension to reach it. Hope this helps! VM |

It's one of those things that, if you ever take your front suspension completely apart and see how the adjuster/torsion bar work together, it makes perfect sense. Until then, it'll just be "magic". ![]() In the meantime, just be glad Ma' Mopar baked ride-height adjustability in, unlike GMs and Fords... VM |
