Post subject: | Suspension Kit Install Help |
Hi Everyone, I just received the rubber suspension rebuild kit from PST for my 68 Dart. Anyone out there have some quick hints on replacing these parts? I have the special ball joint socket available. Think I've read something about burning out the control arm bushings, then crushing them to get them out? Suggestions appreciated... Thanks! -Mac |

I've got my own 12 ton press, which sure makes it easy to press the upper/lower bushing out and in. I've found that when removing the upper ball joint, it's easiest to do it on the car. If you follow the FSM's procedures for removing the LCA bushing, you'll find that it's a real PITA. Instead I tack weld a large washer or scrap metal across the top of the bushing (once the pivot shaft is pressed out) and then press the outer bushing shell out. Also make sure that when you remove the inner bushing shell from the pivot you don't score the pivot. Hope this helps. |

If you don't onw a welder (I don't), take the lower control arms to your favorite machine shop along with the new LCA bushings. Have them press out the old ones and install the new ones. Cost me $10 for each side, and it was money well spent... VM |
