Post subject: | 4speed a body shift rods |
I recently got my valiant out of long term storage. The reason it was put in storage was it broke the t-bar crossmember. The entire floor (including trans tunnel) is out from rust damage so while it's apart it's getting frame connectors and a lot of gusseting. My question is does anyone have a source for A-body 4 speed shift rods. I have a b&t 833 just laying there begging to be installed. I have the bellhousing, trans, a shifter from a later 833 od but no rods. I recall reading somewhere that you can no longer get factory style bent rods only aftermarket style straight rods. Is there any difference between the two. I basically want something that won't bend or break. The shifter I'm planning to use is out of a 1981 truck that I bought for parts. I had just planned to make a handle since the floor pan is going to be radically different than factory, but that's a story for another time. Thanks in advance. |

One of the shift rods has a really big bend in it to clear the crossmember. I don't remember which one though. The other two have a minor bend in them. You might try Brewer's for your rods as they specialized in nothing but 4 speed stuff. |

its' the reverse rod that goes beneath the cross member. I have the 1-2 and 3-4 rods for my 833, but I think I may have to make the reverse rod, unless I can find one locally for cheap... anyway, Brewers, or passion should have a set. Possibly Laysons as well. |
