Post subject:  unkown cater carb

i just picked up a cater carb at a junkyard and can figure out what it is. it was on a 76 slant six duster. the number on the base plate is 7228s. i've looked and cant find any info on it other number on the float 2455.

would this be an upgrade form a holley 1920

Well if it looks similar (there are variations - like the rubber tube near the top) to the carb in the pictures below, it's a Holley 1945.

The Carter BBS or the Holley 1920 are the best - depending on who you ask, but the consensus around here is the 1945 is one of the worst 1BBL carbs for the /6. I'd stick with the carb you've got, and maybe give it a rebuild if you're having trouble with it.

I missed you saying it's a Carter - as far as I know 1BBL carbs were Holley's from the factory during the 70's.
