I have taken .100" off the engine, and .110" off the head, I have stock pistions / rods / crank. What is the hightest Lift / Duration cam I can use in this motor without having clearance issues? Also Have stock 1.5:1 rockers. Greg |

I think you'll need shorter pushrods too...... I hope someone else can chime in with a formula for that. I took .090 off of my head and just decked the block, and I have heard stock will be fine but a few others said I need to be a bit shorter, but nobody knew how much right off hand. I am running a clifford cam, .531 lift, duration is 246 in. 256 ex. at .050. I suppose there is a specific measuring tool out there.... |

Pretty easy, take an old, straight pushrod, cut about 1/4 of the way down from the top (cup end), cut almost 1/2" more off the bottom end (make sure it's a nice even cut not tilted (use bandsaw at work if possible). Thread the inside of both ends, cut the threaded end off a long bolt or use all-thread of appropriate size, add a couple of nuts to lock the distance in, assemble, and install in longblock adjust as necessary to get the proper lift/clearances. then send to pushrod manufacturer to get the correct length pushrods. For highest lift, you'll have to get in there and get the measuring tools to check where the pistons are and the valves... with the variance in block tolerances the deck height will vary a lot and just saying you cut 'X' amount out of the deck won't help if your block was.016 originally and the rest of us had .014, .008...etc... good luck, -D.idiot |

There is usually a slight range of sizes that a pushrod can work...... Do the above, then see if there are some sets that are close to that measurement. i.e. you measure 10.25" and there are already pushrods at 10.22" and 10.28" out there, see which of those sizes work by setting your measurement pushrod to that length and see how it works.............if not, then go custom. (and if you haven't figured out by now, I made the lengths up for instruction purposes) An off-the-shelf-item would be easier to get, most likely cheaper, quicker, and easier to replace if you ever had to...... |

| Post subject: | pushrod & vavle clearance |
on my engine i cut .140 off the block & .080 off the head, the stock pushrods were perfect with only 1 tread showing below the rocker. on the vavle clearance, i had .070 on the ex(1.60)& .065 on int(1.80) this was with .540lift & 255@.050 this was checked with playdough sprayed with wd40 so the vavles will not stick and leave a nice inprintto read. try this with no head gasket & zero lash at the vavle so the head gasket & lash will be extra. hope this helps |
