when I shutdown my car it wont start up again

the gasket is covered with gas and I'll have to wait till it's dried
Happened to me at the gas station and today again

I swapped the carter 2 barrel with another and got the same problem

Sounds like a mis-adjusted float, or a bad needle valve.

No, it's not a Carter problem, it's a common carburetor problem and as they age, it becomes more common.

I've actually had more problems with Holleys than Carters.

Summer's here, and gasoline meant to be burned in fuel injected cars gives old carbies a case of the vapors!

Have you done the fuel line mod yet?

my 1920 does that too, i adjusted the float and it fixed it for a while, i would be very glad to try something with the fuel line as im not good at adjusting carbs and can use all the help i can get with it, right now my line just goes from the fuel pump over the valve cover to a filter to the metal line on my carb, it also smells like gas alot, so long story short, what is this mod? thanks

ok, thats how mine was when i got it and when i replaced the fuel line i did that, it might be hanging to low to the exhaust though...i was hoping there was a better way to run it or something then what i already had, thanks anyway, back to adjusting the float...

Is your "goes over the valve cover" fuel line (from pump to carb) made out of metal, or flexible hose?

Also, have you checked that the heat riser valve, in the exhaust manifold centre collector directly under the carburetor, is free and working?

there is a rubber line run from the fuel pump that goes over the valve cover and connects to a metal line that was on my carb when i got it, ordered a rebuild kit today, if nothing else i need the float gasket and hopefully i can get it running better, i dont know anything about the heat riser valve, what does it do and how do you tell if its working or not? thanks!

anyways my sister is going to the US next week so I am getting a brand new edelbrock 500 to use with my weiand intake
