Post subject:  what year for a head

i'm looking to get a new head soon and was wondering if i should look for a 68 or later head. I want to start looking so i can get one in the shop while my 2bbl intake is getting it's cleaning.

if not a 68 what head should i be looking for.

I personally prefer the '75 and up heads. No drool tubes around the plugs. '81 and up do take a different valve cover though.

There are advantages and disadvantages to all years anyway. 8)

My journeys in these forums have given me the impression to use 72 and up heads, so you get hardened valve seats for unleaded gas. Use 72 to 74 if you want to keep a stock appearance on an early slant, and 75 to 80 (?) if you want to eliminate the spark plug tubes.
