Was a very good race. Had some rain Fri and sprinkles on Sat/Sun, but they ran all races. Somehow the Slant Fast 4 got cancelled, so that was a bummer, especially for Barry H and Dale. Lots of upsets... Paul Moran (Slant6Ram) went to the finals in his second Slant 6 race. Barry Harrison won the whole thing for his first Slant race win - congrats Barry! The points race is still wide open. 17 cars showed up and 14 made the first round. The Coxes raced Menko's recently amped-up 62 Lancer to low 17s. Sweet little car. Somehow, Menko never made it to the track and just let them run his car all weekend. Sad story of the weekend was that Rodney's dually truck got stuck in 1st gear and he and Meril had to hang out until today to see about getting it fixed. Dang electronics... My 68 Dart with the new EFI was not well tuned for the track, and although I got my lights down in the 0.030-0.060 range, I couldn't get it consistent. Gotta do a test-n-tune soon. I did drive it NC-CT-OH-NC and got 24-25mpg on the hwy though! I drew Rodney in the 1st round and broke out... Lou |

I counted 16 slant six cars in the pits, but technical problems in trial runs caused two cars to drop out by saturday. Greg let me follow him out to the track and hang out under his tent, then didn't get two practice runs before realizing that his oiling problem was not gonna go away. I will not do the 'seen' list for fear of missing someone, but Seymor was there, so I'm sure there will be a complete write up in the Slant Six racing news. My face hurts from smiling so much, I'm also more than just a little sunburnt. I backed up my slant six performance by going 5 rounds in the sportsman class on Sunday. My ET was only 18.9x because I was all packed to go home and didn't expect to last so long. I got to race a guy in a nice Hemi powered truck dialed 15.45, bet he was mad when my little six sent him home. The guy who finally beat me out of sportsman went all the way to finals. He only got me by a few hundredths of a second, so it was hard core racing right up to the traps. Several of the guys stayed late into the day on sunday to cheer me on. I can't thank them enough. I learned a lot about racing and I could not have done any of it without the help of this forum and the great people who race slant sixes and support the racing program. Looks like I'm back in contention for rookie of the year. See you at Hamilton. |

Paul, That's fantastic that you went so far in sportsman too! Getting that car pretty well dialed in then, eh? Glad we got to meet, and hope to see you again at Clay City or Wilkesboro (I can't make Ham). Lou |

Big D, I was disappointed as it ran a best of 17.99@75 - a little worse than the 500 2bbl given air conditions. It did need more bottom end fuel, so I am still tweaking the EFI map. With good air and tweaks, it oughtta run in the very low 17s or high 16s. Very mild motor - MP436 cam, 8.0:1 comp, stock head, Dutra duals into single 2.5", 52mm throttle body and 24lb/hr injectors, 3.23 gears and 2100 stall, approx 3300lbs race weight. Just need to get out to a test'n'tune... Lou |

Looks like Ham is falling apart for me. My wife is a bridesmaid (I'm not good at keeping track of dates)Lou She said I could go racing if I would rather, she is very generous, but I know her feelings would be hurt. In exchange for escorting her, I expect she will be happy to let me race down to Clay City AND Wilkesboro. That also gives me a few extra weeks to get ready for my next race. Now I can see why guys complain about races on back to back weekends. |

Will be glad to see you at either or both of those races. BTW, I picked up your blue towel from the hotel room but forgot to give it to you on Sunday. Will bring to those races if I can remember. Lou |
