Post subject:  Bleeding brakes
This weekend I plan on replacing the master cylinder on my 68 Dart
(4 wheel drum, no power assist.). Presently the brakes work but the
pedal comes up when you pump the brakes once while stopping and once
in a great while it will bottom out but comes back on the second pump.
I'm not losing any fluid so I figure one of the two seals in the master
cylinder is blowing by.

My question is which wheel do I bleed first, the one closest to the master
cylinder or the one most distant?

Either. I usually start with the farthest away and get closer from there.

My manual says to go in this order:

Right rear
Left rear
Right front
Left front

Don't just rely on doing it once, go back and check.

I replaced the master cylinder and bench bled it on the car (I jacked up
the front to get the cylinder level). I then hooked up the lines expecting
bad brakes and pulling.

To my surprise the brakes work fine, no pulling, no pumping!

Anyone else been this lucky?

I agree. You have trapped air in the lines.

Right, better safe than crashed. It will be a good opportunity to replace
the bleeders with those one-way bleeder valves :D
