I am a virgin messenger person so bare with me... Just bought this truck and it is almost perfect condition (other than being 35 years old) and want to totally restore the truck but make some modifications. Everyone I know wants me to dump the six and put in a V8... I like the six and want to keep it but can't find parts to increase the horse power. Years ago I could get them from Mopar or direct Connection but now I am told no luck. The motor runs good and only has 36,000 miles but leaks oil and I want to find a 5 speed so I can make this truck more hwy friendly. Here is what I am asking. Can I order an entire engine kit for this motor? I want to increase the torque and overall horse power. I plan on putting air on this truck and really tricking it out with 34 maby 36" tires and making it a daily driver. The single barrel has no guts. Yes in 4 low this truck will pull a building down but now that I have 34" mudders it has no hwy guts. Where do I find engine parts? Or do they even exist... I can build a 360 and have it ready in a matter of weeks but I really want to keep the 225 slant in this truck. HELP!

Welcome!
Read the slantsix.org articles, and search this form for individual topics.
Just a few sites for goodies:

http://www.laysons.com/

There are lots of other sites that have good information:
www.slantsix.com
www.mopartchat.com
... and the rest of the mopar sites that occasionally mention the slant.

As for the 5-speed part of your question, here's one option:

Also, if money is no object, Keisler can modify a slant bellhousing for their 5-spd kit:

Hope this helps!

If you get ready to sell that truck, let me know! The other thing you may want to consider is lowering the gear ratios in your axles. Sounds like you are a candidate for 4.56 or lower gears with those big tires.

That will go a long way towards helping the gutlessness on the highway. You are asking a lot from a 1-barrel slant with that heavy truck and big tires. But that will be true of most any engine you may install.
