Where should I place my MSD 6A, if I dont put it on top of the engine, I have to extend some of the leads. I think the right innerving is the best place, and then extend the leads to the battery. Am I right? Opinion please. |

innerving???????? If you meant the inner fender on top, behind the alternator, that's where I'd put it. |

Ok, inner fender is the right word, give me ten more years and I will get a grip of this. Did you use the same area on the leads when you extended them? |

On my truck (still got points on my valiant), I used the same gauge wire for the big power leads (I think they're 10 gauge), but used larger wire on the coil leads (upgraded to 14 gauge) since I had some spools of 14 gauge wire lying around. (Battery is on passenger side front corner, only place to mount was firewall, and coil is on drivers side rear corner) I also added a 30 amp relay (switched by ignition), and 20 amp fuse to the power lead for good measure. I'm still contemplating a ignition upgrade for the valiant, and if there are any external box(es) they will go on inner vender. |

placed mine on the right inner fender. dist wires pointing to the alternator, coil, heavy batt and ignition wires pointing to the firewall. This way, I had to extend both battery heavy gauge wires, i used 4 mm premium cable and soft soldered covered crimp-on connectors. Had to shorten the coil cables and of course, connect the small red one to 12v. I packed all those cables under stock looking non adehesive vynil tape, wrapped tight, and the cables run under stock location, so it's fairly noticeable. One thing I had to do is bond tohether IGN 1 + IGN 2 cuz the car was stalling in the transition between those 2 circuits (one carries 12v at contact, the other at run) Also be sure you twist together the dist cables (if using magnetic pickup) to keep interferences away. I used no relay or fuse.... and I burnt my heavy battery cable when it contacted with the front section of my headers. long story short, the cable melted, soldered itself to the pipe, I resoldered together that very cable (was in the middle of nowhere) and bingo she fired up instantly!. |
