Hi all,
I have a Slant & I'm contemplating putting Harden valve seats in the Exhaust Valve seats . I have been running on unleaded for 3 years now & last week I had a blown Head gasket & found a sticky Valve & the seats were very recessed So I thought I would convert it to harden valve seats so I can Run unleaded in it with out the damage .
Have any of you Guys put harden Seats in yet ? If so I would like to hear your thoughts on the matter . How much did it cost ? Can you still buy the good valve Guide seals " Caps " Not O Ring !
Can anyone tell me the best Manifold gasket to get & where to get it .

Thanks Peter

Everyone installs hardened exhaust valves and seats on a head rebuild—it's silly not to do so in this unleaded day and age. It cost about $10 to $15 per cylinder in parts and labour last time I had it done. Any competent machine shop can do it. Both the original umbrella type and the newer positive valve stem seals are available. O-rings aren't applicable to the slant-6. Which manifold gasket is best depends on what kind of manifolds you're mounting; for general all-purpose use I like NAPA MS-16030 and I don't like the Fel-Pro.

Yep. They're not quite as thick/soft as the NAPA (Victor-Reinz) gasket, and I've had 'em leak where the NAPA gasket seals.

Also, I got a super nasty cut on one of the Fel-Pro gaskets once.

Thanks , Yeah I'm not mad on Fel-pro , But I'm in Australia & I don't always have access to the good brands , more & more stuff is being made in china . Lucky I put lots of stuff away years ago but all the manifold Gaskets I have are the Original ones & they don't work with well Extractors.I have used the Fel-pro Manifold Gaskets , But I found it to start leaking a few months later .
I'll see if I can fine a suppler of NAPA Gaskets on ebay .
All the best Peter
