Autozone will probably rent you one cheap. IIRC, they also have them in their tool aisle for about $15 or so.

well, i got all the gaskets, spent the day tearing down the car. when i got to the " damper", i find that i need a special tool #c-3732a to take it off. where can i get one or is there another way to take it off? thanks! |

You just need to check with your local parts store in the tool aisle, or Harbor Freight has a pulley puller set (the kind that uses bolts not the type that uses the "claws"). It should be relatively inexpensive. -D.Idiot |

NO!, you will destroy your damper with a "gear puller".You need a harmonic balancer puller available at most any auto parts place, hardware store, and farm&fleet type stores. Just for the hell of it, have you tried just pulling on it with your hands............... Worked on my toyota pickup........... As I was underneath the front deciding if I had to remove the radiator to have enough room to get a gear puller over the pulley, I just decided to yank it to see if it would move................. I pulled it right off, big (pleasant) surprise.... |

well, i got the puller. problem is the hamonis balancer and my a/c pulley are bolted together from the inside out. are they suppose to be one unit?i tried pulling them off together and ..no way. also, how am i suppose to stop the crank from spinning? thanks! |

for those of you who read this and didn't know. the two pulleys are bolted together from the inside and are one unit. i took a shot at just putting all the plugs back in and it was enough to hold the crank still till it broke loose. |

yes, tomorrow i will try to finish putting the chain and gears on, flush, repair, and paint the radiator and if possible loosen the motor mounts and try to change out the oil pan gasket (i've read it's a real pain). i really can't get over how loose the timing chain was! although using a nylon gear was probably the reason why. thanks! |
