Post subject:  Carb recommendation for Slant Six Marine Engines?

My cousin has a boat (I believe it's an old Boston Whaler) with two 170 CID slant sixes in them.

The intake manifolds (2BBL) have the numbers "G595" on them (so I was told).

I am trying to help him get some carbs for this thing and figured I would try here for some suggestions on the correct carbs for the application?

We're not necessarily looking for the exact carb, just ones that will work reliably.

Thanks in advance!

Is there a way you can post pics of the manifold or carb mounting boss with dimensions? Probably a Carter BBD would work well and you can get them (rebuilt) at auto parts stores.

Don't use an automotive carburator. You /must/ use a marine one for several reasons. They have tighter throttle shafts and different venting to ensure that fuel will not spill into the boat if the carb floods, and they are also tested to ensure they work properly with flame arrestors. Installing anything other than a genuine marine carb would be a very bad idea. That said, you can still probably get one from your local auto-parts store. Just make sure it is out of the marine line.
