| Post subject: | Waterpump blew up at work today ! |
Seems I'm having all sorts of problems with antifreeze these days. I recently put a coolant recovery tank on the dart cause it was spitting up after shutting it off. A few days later I noticed the upper radiator hose was about to blow cause it had a big buldge on one side, so I replaced that. Shortly after that the radiator cap starts leaking and the fan blows the leaking antifreze all over my engine. So I get a new cap last friday. Today I got back to work from lunch, and a few minutes later I look out at the car in the parking lot, and its puked up about 1/2 gal of antifreeze. I go to check it out, but cant see where its leaking. I start it up and let it run while I check. Suddenly the antifreeze starts pouring out of the bottom of the water pump. Anyway, I cant drive it home 30 miles in that condition. So my work buddy takes me to autozone. I bought a new pump and some other supplies. I had it replaced in about 1 hour and got it refilled and now I can drive home ! Just for fun I also replace the heater hoses, the short hose between the pump and the head, and I would have replace the lower radiator hose also but autozone didnt have one. Seems like every week or so I find something else that needs replaced or fixed. Good thing I love driving this car ! I think this car spent many years sitting in a garage and was not driven much and now that I've started driving it everyday there are bound to be lots of little things going wrong. Just hoping that some day a catch up with it and wont have to work on it every weekend. |

It sure is nice to look at! I wonder if there is leakage from the head gasket sending the acidity skyhigh. Wait til your heater core goes, thatll be fun. When it does, just have a new core put in it, dont replace it. The new one likely wont fit right. |

Why would that be the case? Correct new core assemblies for '63-'72 A-bodies are not difficult to get.

Me too on my heater core from the local parts store, although, as I remember the price was much better than I thought it would be...and even with the soldering was worth it for some one like me with much mechanical skills and tools, but little available cash at the present. Gearhead |

Replace the water pump in an hour? Dang, I could do that except for all the bolts are frozen up. I know the techniques for this, but no matter what I always end up twisting off the head. I'm thinking I'll bring my car to one of the mechanics in town that deals exclusively with old rusty cars, I don't seem to have the nack/luck at dealing with rusted bolts(last year I changed my exhaust manifold, had to tap and die three holes(my car was down for a day), this week I put on an offy intake and because I used stainless last time it took me a day). |

Yup, the one I bought was supposed to be a stant! No branding on the box, though... the tubes were not bent the same. |
