I realize most of the folks with a performance exhaust run a single outlet, but I'm going with true duals soon and was wondering if anybody is running an x-pipe, and if so, how does it sound? All of the info I can find is for V8's and the word is it makes 'em sound "higher-pitched and smoother". I think slants sound "higher-pitched and smoother" to begin with, so what does/would a slant with a dual/x-pipe sound like (even MORE higher-pitched and smoother?)? Just curious...

Don't know how it would sound, but having the front 3 cylinders X'd to the rear 3 cylinders then duals to the rear might be interesting.............

Wonder if there's more power potential...

ill bet you the exhuast flow would be better than if you had one pipe coming from the exhuast manifold and another pipe branching off making the whole exhuast system looking like a "4" that isnt closed at the top!

So, if your /6 already sounds "higher pitched and smoother" and your X-pipe makes it still more so, aren't ya getting dangerously close to sounding like a RICER???

Me. I wanna find a way to make my slant sound like a '64 Dodge A/FX HEMI!

ok. wanna make your slant6 sound lower? drop your idle rpm to 400rpm or 350, and put a really fat and long cherry bomb on the end of the pipe after cutting the muffler off!!!!

or you can take the exhuast pipe right out of your exhuast manifold!!! that one is the coolest!!! did it for a couple weeks once when mine broke out the manifold.

Yeah, that worked on my 55 Plymouth flathead six, too. Didn't make it run noticeably faster, but a lot louder! Sounded so baaad, I had to race it the next Sunday!

Made it through three rounds of street eliminator running "N" Stock Automatic class. Back then, before the tree, we had a flagman to start us and the handicap was by staging the slower class car so many carlengths ahead of the faster class car.

I got spotted 12 carlengths ahead of the "A" Stock '62 413max wedge!
He went by me so fast I thought my ol' hoopie had stopped!!!
But he passed me about a foot past the 1320 mark! Then, in round four, the Buick wagon that started. I think, three lengths behind me pulled ahead about the halfway point and stayed about a fender ahead all the way. Ahh the good old days!!!

oh yeah man!!! when my pipe was out, it was so loud!! i noticed a bit of low end speed drop although. I got so many looks from people with it like that. I got more looks from people with my slant six no exhuast car than practicly my friends v8 camaro with dual cherrie bombs!!! it was so baad!
the power of the slant/6!!!!!!

I installed a set of 3 into 1 clifford headers with a true 2.5" dual exhaust system a couple of months ago. My pipe exit out the side - right before the wheels. I have yet to put in my x-pipe - no time !!!

I think the car sound great for a slant 6 - has a deep rumble at idle and sounds even better when you get on it. If I were to do it again I would run the pipes out back to cut down on the resenation a little.
