Post subject:  pictures?

i may be way out of line here, and maybe i shouldn't be posting this question here, but... i have looked and looked and i may just be blind... but, does anybody cover these races pictorially and put them on this forum? i really like reading about the information i get here and the comradery between the racers. i know i'm lucky to just keep my cars running half the time, i'm fairly new to the forum (although i ask a lot of dumb questions), and i may never put NOS on my car, but i really get into what you guys are doing! personally, i wish you would write more for us "novice" members. also, i try to keep my stupid questions out on the "engine", "other" where i feel they belong and out of respect to this section. i watch, i read, i learn (although a little slow), and i really would like to go watch you guys someday in person. thanks!

Occasionally people post pics about the races. You're right, we should really do that more. I have some from Clay City and I'll try to post them sometime soon so you can get a little closer to the action. :D

http://www.slantsix.org/racing/2003/2005schedule.htm

several of the well known cars are pictured here, but I have noticed that there are not a lot of people posting pictures after events lately. I think the biggest problems are that most of us are too busy driving or watching or turning a wrench.

Lots of pictures exist, but never get posted to the website due to time and space restrictions. I posted some pictures of last years pittsburgh race, but removed them after a few months to save space. I have them on CD if I ever have time to look at them again.

The best way to get pictures and information is to subscribe to the slant six racing news. It's the highlight of my week when one arrives and each copy I own has the pages worn thin from reading and reading again.

It's not required! (but I hear it's lots of fun)

If you ever get a chance, please bring your car to a race and enter. You won't hurt your car doing a couple normal 1/4 mile passes. It's hardly more than merging onto the interstate. It's lots of fun and you will really enjoy it more than just watching. I doubt you'll win anything the first time out, but the experience is worth the entry fee IMO.

What do you want to know about? There are lots of articles and stuff spread all over the place. Ask and someone will point the way. I'd say 90% or more of the time, the frequent posters are repeating answers.

74SCAMP,

Start planning for next year's "Mopar's at the Strip" in Vegas in March or early April. There will be some serious Slant 6 cars there, as there were this year.

Slant6Ram: does the Slant Six racing news show any of the engine work or "mods" you guys do to your cars? also, where would i get a subscription? i think first i better focus on just being able to drive my car to "Vegas" and make it back, before i think about racing it. my questions would be about your "mods" and what difference it made to your car. why you chose to go one way and someone else chose another. i don't always understand some things right off, but then i will go back and read them again and i get a little more each time. i think your idea of "Vegas" next april would be a blast! i'm dying to see the cars! i want to see under the hood, the chassis, paint schemes, ect., ect.... that is IF that's possible, or maybe even have a couple of guys look over my car and tell me... you know you really need to do this and that... and why do you still have that on there??? and if i were you....... THAT WOULD BE COOL! thanks!

SCAMP,

You can get a subscription to SSRN from Seymour Pederson (see "Racing" page from main page for contact info - he doesn't do internet) for $10/yr, or by attending 1 or 2 races. Money well spent. Puts in lots of pics and articles on cars, buildups...

Hope you can make Vegas,

Lou

Post subject:  How to deceide

I want to go a little faster each year. I have an idea in my mind about what I can do this year and what I would like 3 years from now.

It's also good to watch for good deals and pick them up even if you didn't plan for them yet. (like when I got an 8 1/4 sure grip rear for cheap!)

Races are great places to learn, because every one of us likes telling stories about our cars! The stories just arn't the same until they've been told a few hundred times and are really ready.

I look at what others have done and then do as much as I can afford. While my car is getting faster, I also need to work on my reaction times and save up money for the bigger improvements.

Again, if you can make it to the track, a few modest 1/4 miles passes shouldn't hurt a thing. Just don't do neutral drops, or try smoking the tires, or rev the heck out of the engine. Sure you'll be slow, but it's still a great experience. I can't even explain the rush I got the first time I pulled up to the tree matched up with a 13 second car in the other lane.

Slant6Ram, i have a friend up the street that has a Camero he runs in the 12's (i think). i keep saying i'm going to go watch him, but i'm either working on my car or at work. i better re-think my priorities.... it's been years sense i have even been to a race track (i get the feeling i'm messing up!). he's a nice guy, he's come over to help me with my car a couple of times and i know his stepfather runs even faster than him. well, i just noticed what time it is...gotta get going! thanks!
