I'm going to try and rebuild the BBD for my soon-to-be-installed super six this weekend. It'll be by first carb rebuild. Aside from "make sure you don't have any parts left over", any advice from the veterans? The exploded view sure looks intimidating...

These carbs arn't that difficult to understand. In most cases, just keep a good eye on what you are doing so you can put it back the way it was when you are done.

Spray cleaner through every hole/port and observe where it comes out the other end. I don't remove each and every tiny part if the seal is good and ports are clear.

Take the extra time to use screwdrivers that match the size of the screws being removed so the heads don't get mangled.

Do not over tighten the screws that hold it together. Most everyone over tightens the screws which crushes the gaskets, warps the parts, and make it leak more.

There might be multiple similar carb-body gaskets in your rebuild kit. Make sure that the gasket you use has the hole for the PCV vacume port, it's easy to screw that one up.

Do your work in a well lighted area and over a light-colored surface. You WILL drop tiny parts, so make sure it's easy to find them when you do. Go through the instructions, first, before you start, and lay all the parts out to compare with the exploded view or included parts list.

This is another job that a factory service manual can help with.
