How do I tell if my timing chain needs to be replaced? Does NAPA sell a unit that does'nt have the plastic teeth? This concerns my Duster and it has a 225 1-V

I believe the HD ones for the truck engines have metal gears -
NAPA has two listed for an 86 Dodge Truck D250 Pickup with a 225
NTP203022 for ~$30
NTP103022 for ~$50 (this appeared to be double roller in the pic)

I tell my timing chain has stretched by the timing bouncing around
while I am trying to tune the motor.

Jeb, i just put in a new double roller timing chain. if you do a "search" on timing chain, you will probably find the answer. i remember reading something about too much slop in the distributor. the original timing gear on the cam on my 1974 Scamp had a nylon gear and my chain was about 1/2" movement either way. if you have a nylon gear you might as well just plan on replacing it. also, i would suggest you try to get an adjustable timing set. they cost a little more but you can degree your cam with it.

That is an indicator of a worn distributor shaft bushing.

A worn timing chain will result in late valve timing. You can check for slack in the chain by removing the distributor cap, and watching the rotor whilst rocking the crank back and forth. If there is a significant delay in movement of the rotor, it is due to slack. The camshaft drives the distributor, thus slack will show as delayed movement of the rotor. You can also pull the valve cover and watch the rockers if you think the diz is worn out.
