i have a dodge dart swinger 225 with a 1bbl. in the future i am thinkin about 2bbling it and want to upgrade the exhaust. it already has dual 2 1/4" run out the back but stock manifold. i wanted to know what offers more performance, dutra duals or headers. i want the cheapest item with decent preformance but i also want decent quality.

Dutra Duals = much less hassle and long-term expense, with better on-street driveability.

Dan is right Dutra Duals might be more up front but with tube headers it could become a nitemare for a street car. I have a 65 Baracuda with stock exhust maifolds on them . Have had two street cars with headers and both of them was a lot of trouble. I think one of the problems with street cars is all the turning and daily driving wants to loosen them up then there goes a header gasket . What do you think Dan
Thanks Ron Parker

I have headers on my street car and they hang too low, and they rust out quickly unless you spend extra to have them jet coated. When I do it again I would like to get a set of Dual Dutra duals. spend the little extra now+++ save money and headache later. just my opinion

I have run headers on my daily driver for almost 2 years now with no signs of rust and no drivability problems.

Headers aren't as bad as some make them out to be. I've ran clifford shorty headers for.. hm I think at least 2 years now? I did have them ceramic coated locally for another $300. The coating blisterd - the guy offerd to do them again but said the coating was destroyed because I was either running too lean or too rich and dumping fuel into the exhaust. Sounded like a hogwash excuse. Anyhow....

Having said that, if I were to do it all over again I'd go straight for the dual dutra duals. Cost wise, $300 for the headers and $300 for the coating (I got a similar priced estimate from jet hot at that time I was shopping for coatings) the dutra duals come out cheaper. Thought I saw on cliffords website they now come with ceramic coatings for the same price, but not sure how well that holds up.

i have the clifford shorties on my daily driver and haven't had a problem yet. they have the coating on them and the are still as black as the day i bought them. i have probably 15.000-20,000 miles on them. my only problem is that the flange is a different thickness than the 1-bbl manifold i have on there right now. it continues to blow the gasket on cyl. 3 and 4. some creative grinding on the triangle washers helped seal it up some but it still blew on cyl. 4. other than that, i buy them again in a heartbeat.

Zedpapa when did you buy your headers? When I got mine a few years ago the original black coating on them appeard to just be typical rattle can stuff that boiled off minutes after the car was started in the exhaust shop.

The flange on the clifford headers are made to match the clifford intake.

probably a year ago, i think. can't remember exactly. this coating is their "ceramic" coating. it seems to be holding up pretty well so far. clifford told me to expect 10-15 years use and 7-10 if i decide to wrap them.

Yea, deffinately not the same coating then the ones I got a few years back. Good luck with them and longevity then.

One other thign I hated about coated headers - you have to be careful not to bump up against them when wrenching under the hood or else you'll be sorry you scratched your expensive coating.
