I just wanted to gote Rob a little. :P

I could hardly pull the staples out fast enough!, then, my wife asked if there would be anthing about me in it, and I quickly lost it to her!

She read a few parts to me while I completed the frame rail replacement on her scamp, and then we where off for a test drive. I tried reading in the car, but never got past the second page, as we were busy planning the family trip this weekend, and my son doesn't like to be ignored.

I guess it's good that I'll still have some fresh reading materials for the drive to N. Wilks.

I'll be taking the scamp to the test and tune on thursday and try and get a feel for her at the lights. I didn't realize I would get so deep into working on the scamp, but It's paid off by now stopping nice and straight and runs as well as any 1bbl 1945 equipt origional slant motor should. There is no time to finish my Aspen with confidence to travel (but I am nearly done), so I mowed the lawn instead. My neighbors will be shocked!

So, I'll be racing a butterscotch 75 scamp on saturday morning. I've got to guess my 1/8 mile will be in the 12-13 second range  , but I'l be there. :D

Dude! That's not cool! :(

Hey, when you see Seymour at NW will you please ask him to send me SSRN #24? When he sent me the big package of the ones I was missing somehow he missed that one.

I figure you owe me that much for the goting!

Now don't go telling me what's in it or the secret to the photo in #37! That would really be rude!

Later

Hey Paul,

Did you ask Seymour about SSRN #24 for me? Or do I need to write him a letter?

How was Wilkesboro? Did you have a good time? Were you consistent? How's your bid for "Rookie of the Year" shapin' up?

Post subject:  Results

Rob,

I didn't remember to tell him about the #24. I can give him a call.

Looks like the race results are posted in another topic.

I drew Ron Parker in the first round. I dialed 12.80 and showed a weak .199 light. (second worst light of the weekend). Ron dialed 8.04 and shot a .119 light.

Ron was gaining fast, but I didn't think he'd quite pass me so I let up right in the traps. Turns out it was a double break out, with me running 12.72 (fastest run of the weekend) and Ron generously offering me a fat hundredth of a second breakout (8.03) to ponder till next we meet.

The loss was easy to bear with my whole team at my side. (My wife Kristin and son Paul Jr could not come on Saturday, but rode along on Sunday, and her cousin Ben was with me both days) No question I'm still about as lucky as they come to have their support.

This seems to be the year of the high scoring rookies, Michael was very confident in his duster and although made it a long way on buy rounds, he really earned the win by beating Ron Hamby in an extremely tight race, and beating Derric D twice! First one didn't count and had to re-run due to the lights being the same even though Derric should have had to wait 1.5 seconds.

Michael's win gives him 51 points and knocks me (and several other racers) down a few pegs. I've still got 3 chances to race for two more round wins this year, but I'll sure need to get my Aspen tighter than it's ever been. My lights are improving quickly, but still need work.
Here are (if memory serves me correctly) my lights for the weekend.
.44 (first run ever in this car, but about average for me)
.080 best light ever
.089 this car is better than my race car
.019 WOW! did I do that?
Next day
.08? not bad
.??? I honestly have no memory, I'll have to dig in the glove box

First round
.199 It really is harder when the pressure is on.

This -Rookie of the Year- is shaping up to be a much harder goal than I thought it would be. A 50 point rookie contest is no free ride. In prior years, what were the odds of a rookie scoring 30 points or more? This year there are 3 Rookies with 30+ points.
