Well I was running a consistant 13.03 with the 100 shot of NOS, never dipped into the 12's, so I just had to try the 150 shot :( As soon as i hit the button, BOOOOOOM. I did a compression test and I have 0 pounds in pistons 1 and 2 and about 170 on all the rest. Does anyone know where I can can find Jahn's 11-1 pistons?????? Now that I am going to have to tear down the motor, I think I might try beefing it up a little. Do you guys have any suggestions???? Right now I am bored out to 238 can I go any further???? Thanks for the advice!!!!! Keep up the good work!!!!

How do the spark plugs look, any "aluminiumized" (metal sprayed) tips?
Any of the plugs smashed-up?
If not, head gasket failure.

I tore it down tonight, and I see no visible damage to the pistons or the cylinder walls, but it was very obvious that I blew the head gasket. There was a 3/4 inch hole blown through the gasket between cylinders one and two, and another one on the bottom side of cylinder one. I have a couple questions though, what is the BEST head gasket I can get. I want to be able to run nitrous with no problems (100 shot, no more 150). One thing that I saw when I tore down the motor that was reassuring was that I do have flat top pistons. Another question, I had some pretty good blow down coming out of the haeders right off the head (black marks on the head), should I double gasket the Intake/Exhaust gaskets, or does anyone have any suggestions on that. Thanks for the help everyone.

Can't really help on the gasket. I am running a solid copper gasket, with an "O" ringed block, on the engine I am running now. On a previous engine, I used the Mopar "shim" gasket, and did blow it once. I thing a Felpro might work OK. I would suggest retarding the timing a couple degrees. A blown head gasket is a sign of detonation. Also make sure you are not going lean, on one or two cylinders.
For a intake/exhaust gasket, contact the Cox Bros.

I don't think that I can retard the timing anymore, I am sitting at 500 rpm at idle in gear, if I go any further, I have a hard time starting it. Also, do you have a website for the Intake/Exhaust gasket? Also, I have a question about my ignition, I am running MSD ignition, does anyone make a racing distributor for a slant six, or does it not make any difference? Thanks for the help guys!!!!!

You may have to do what I am going to do. Weld up the advance slots in the distributor so you can run more intial so it will idle, but limit total to a number that will not destroy parts.

No aftermarket distributor available for the Slant.

I have a regular Fel-Pro head gasket in mine. I am at almost 11-1 and did not blow it out after 4 150 shot passes last week. I have my timing at 30* total, vacuum advance unhooked completely, and a mixture of 100,111,and 114 octane in the tank. MSD6-AL for ignition, shifting at 6000.

Hey Slantzilla, what carb are you running. I am running a Holley 570 straight out of the box. I have to shift at right around 5200, and that's pushing it. Also, are you running a micro switch for your NOS, the way my carb is set up, I don't see how I could mount one, so I have to use the button. I pretty much hit it off the line though. Is there anything else that I can do so that I won't have any problems running NOS?? Thanks for the help!!

I am running a 390 Holley on a Clifford intake and a 1" open spacer. I also had the carb plate for the intake milled open instead of the 4 hole setup.

I run mine on the horn button. I did make a bracket for a micro switch, but it is too short on the Clifford intake. (I started with an Offy) I purge through the motor, that is why I am on a button.

Biggest things for spraying. Good fuel pressure, retard the timing, colder plugs, and run the absolute best gas you can.

I run a Holley blue pump and regulator and start with 8.5 psi fuel pressure. By the end of the run it is down to around 7.5. I also have a nitrous pressure gauge and bottle heater. I try to keep bottle pressure between 900-1000 psi.

I have a single pickup no advance distributer for a computer controled slant (not good for a street driver). Timing is set at 24 degrees all the time. My compression is less then 8-1(was going to be turbo motor). I use Unocal 114 octane leaded. Bottle pressure (heated) 1050, fuel pressure 6.5lbs. Shift at 6,000 rpm. Short ground electrode NGK plugs. I have a holley 500 cfm 2 bbl. on a modified stock 1 bbl manifold. Micro switch on the carb, and a button on the console for backup. 150 hp shot.

I run #25 Autolite plugs. Pulled them after the other day and they actually looked rich. That was probably from driving back to the trailer though.

Next stop, a 200 shot.
