Post subject: | Paint thoughts for brake parts |
Hi all, Just got my disc brake parts sand blasted and ready to put on. I need to paint the calipers, dust shields and such and was wondering what you guys have used sucessfully and would recommend. I have cans of engine enamel (hi temp stuff I used for my engine) but I've also seen "caliper paint" that's somewhat pricey at the parts stores. Does this type of paint resist brake dust and fluid better than regular paint? Anyone have any experience with these? Thanks! As an interesting aside, the dust shields were actually plated when I blasted all the rust off. They are a coppery color at the moment. What color were these originally? I assumed they were black, but just was curious. I'm not dying to do a perfect restoration, but I was just intrigued. MJ |

Dust shields were black oxide or black phosphate. VHT ("Very High Temperature") makes extremely good ultra-high-temp-resistant paints in lots of different colors. You may have to scratch around to find it. A second preference would be barbecue grille paint from the hardware store (usually one choice only, black) |

drats! I didn't buy the VHT while I was in columbus. I'll poke around here. So everything gets the black treatment. Good deal. Thanks Dan MJ |

Krylon semi-flat black for suspensions parts and Krylon BBQ flat black on the calipers. Works fine. |
