:?: I may be late to the dance with this question, but why is there no Slant Six class running at the Nats?

Well it's an extremly long shot but I might make it next year in my /6 '68 Fastback. I hear the Barracuda is gonna be the marquee car...

It is my understanding that the promoter has no interest in a Slant class.

The Slant Six racers got screwed about 10 years ago there is what I've heard, and never wanted to go back. I think we could get a class going there if we had enough takers. I don't know all the history. Some of the racers have talked about having an informal showing some future year to shake people up a little...

There were 4-6 Slant cars running there this year including John Mayberry's 74 Dart Swinger (mid 12s on juice, low 13s on motor), my 64 Dart, Jim Cox's 75 Dart...

I cant see having two slant six races at the same track. If the CC changes it might be a good idea to approach the Nats folks again.

Atlanta is the same way. People got screwed years ago and have no interest in returning. I always liked that event and the fact that it was closer to Fla. and points south.

 I'll be straight up about it: I own just about one of everything in Dart Land. From a 440 NSS car to my Slant racer. And I've been shocked at some comments I hear at some events about /6 cars. I spoke with a guy who left his Valiant at home from a show because he didn't think he'd be welcome. In a world of million dollar Hemi's and six figure clones, I could see how he'd feel that way. I've been pretty lucky to have had the right breaks where I can indulge in a collection. For some hard working folks a slant car may be their best way to enter the car hobby. We need to take the high road with these shows and I, for one, believe we ought to make our own little camp at places like the Nats so good people who think a hobby car is out of their reach might find that ring is close enough grab after all. HEY!! How did I get up on this box???? HELP ME DOWN !!! RICK P.S. If I DO bring my big car to a race, would it still be okay if I stopped by to visit ? :)

Slanters are a very welcoming crowd, as you probably know. Most of us appreciate all kinds of cars.

We should have planned and coordinated more for the Nats, since there were at least 8-10 of us "hardcore" folks there and only about half got together. Next time...
