I was hoping to get a set of bosch plug wires and cap for my slant but the local canadian tire tried telling my mom that they would have to be special ordered because bosch didn't make them so i went to the bosch web site and found the part number for the wires but nothing for the cap and rotor and was wondering if the cap is the same for the 3.9L v6 or if there are some diffrences

(they are on sale this week in my canadian tire flyer)

The cap and rotor are different. The rotor has a smaller hole, due to the 3.9 dist shaft being a smaller diameter, due to the 3.9 have no centrifical advance mechanism. The cap is also different. The relation ship of the locating notch to the tabs for the hold down clips is different.

Can't imagine why you'd actively seek out Bosch's aftermarket ignition parts, which are junk. Any particular reason?

Can't figure out why you have those, either. Junk, junk, junk.

Ok, if the bosch platinum +4 plugs are junk, then what would you recommend?

MSD makes excellent ignition components. What's the goal, though? If you're not going racing, you can achieve an excellent ignition upgrade for a great deal less money than it takes to put in an MSD. See This thread.

NGK and Autolite are my favorite and 2nd-favorite spark plug makers. For the '60-'74 heads (with spark plug tubes and gasket-seat spark plugs) my favorite plug is NGK ZFR5N and my 2nd favorite is Autolite 985. These are special extended-electrode plugs. See This thread which includes pictures of the extended vs. standard electrodes. The extended electrodes move the spark point out towards the center of the combustion chamber and away from the metal edges. The plugs were originally designed for tough-to-light engines (desmogged AMC 232/258, Chrysler TBI 318s in '81-'83 Imperials), 'cause the mixture is much less variable in the middle of the chamber than at the edges, and these long-electrode plugs give more consistent light-off of the cylinder under borderline-combustibility conditions. These plugs are also used in a lot of other late-model Mopars (4-litre Jeeps, 1st-generation 3.5 V6s, etc.)

I use 'em in my '89 Ram TBI 318, my 2.2/2.5 cars, my slant-6s...

Options are less for the '75-up taper-seat spark plugs. I'd probably run NGKs of one description or another in that kind of head, but don't think there are any extended-electrode plugs in that size format. :-(

The Bosch "Plus 2" and "Plus 4" thing is a scam. More ground electrodes just get in the way of the fire!

Go read the thread again. "HEI ignition system" is not something you go buy off the shelf. You use a standard Mopar electronic distributor, a GM HEI module from the parts store or wrecking yard, and some wire you supply yourself. It's all been written up and referenced many times here, and there's a link to the how-to in the thread I already sent you to.

Most of it's tolerably good.

Maybe, maybe not... my dad's '85 318 doesn't have leanburn on it. I do know there is a difference in the ignition control modules for the 80's as opposed to the earlier ones, but as far as I know you can interchange the later to the earlier and have it work (so long as you're running the single ballast resistor.)
