Has anyone done any frame reinforcing on a-body convertibles? I know they have some additional reinforcements from the factory, but I'm curious if any aftermarket parts are available. My car is surprisingly rigid in normal driving, but when I ugrade the brakes, suspension and rear end, it might also be a good time to work on torsional rigidity, if it's at all practical. |

http://www.autorust.com/ auto rust technicians has the conversion kits to beef up standard a body construction, but I think it's mostly just the same as what a convertable gets in the first place. Even still, those are the guys to contact who are recognized 'experts'. |

I know sub-frame connectors do wonders for any A body. They are very common. Not original looking, but a great upgrade. They sell bolt-in sets in all the Mopar magazines through Mopar performance and you should be able to go to any Mopar dealership and order them. Just ask to see their Mopar Performance catalog. Many people suggest welding them in. You can weld in the bolt in type as well. There have also been several tech articles on how to make your own pretty cheaply and easily. If you order a set of the bolt-in type, make sure you specify your year and make. If it's a '64 A body it has the shorter (106"?) wheelbase and not the longer (111"?) wheelbase. I ordered a set for my '72 Dart and didn't know to specify which ones. When I got them and discovered that they were too short I just put them on my '64 Barracuda. I hope this helps. |

If you are going to weld them in, it is even cheaper to go down to the local metal yard and buy about 8' of 2x3 1/8" wall square tube. I did mine pretty much this way http://www.angelfire.com/mo2/radrodder/ ... ctors.html . Considerably cheaper then pre-fabbed stuff and works just as well. |
