Post subject:  battery relocation

I was looking at summit racings battery relocation kits. This is a daily driver and I just wanted to clean up the engine bay a little. Has anyone tried the $43 kit. I do plan on running the power wire through the interior.

I've had a Summit kit in my red car for years. One thing you must remember, it is not for a daily driver. Fumes will fill your trunk and go BOOM!!!!

Post subject:  Vent hose???????

I thought the battery boxes had a vent hose that you could route outside the trunk.........

Many battery boxes do have provisions for proper venting, and I've seen Alphas that came new from the factory with the (vented) battery in the trunk.

Around 20 years ago, one of the car magazines (Car Craft maybe) published an article about relocating the battery to the trunk, but neglected to mention the venting. I picked up a later issue in which three letters to the editor addressed that point - one from a fire marshal, two from people who blew up their trunks.

Some of the new cars are even putting the battery under the back seat from the factory... Buick, I think?

Many BMWs, Audis, Mercedes and I think the new Chrysler 300 have batteries in the trunk or under the back seat. Any of the relocation kits should also come with a vent tube.

The cheap Summit kit comes with a marine battery box. It does not have vent tubes in it.

what would anyone suggest then for a properly vented trunk mounted battery?

I had actually never heard of this before (problems with venting that is).

An old car with rust holes would properly vent it.............

A marine battery, or sealed battery should be legitinate responses.
The sealed battery is, well... sealed, and the marine battery has a vent hose you can run to the outside...
