I will be be pulling my SL 6 this weekend for a rebuild. Is there anything I should know now that would make it easier to put it back in? It is a D-150 truck with a A-833 OD. I read somewhere to leave the bellhousing attached to the motor and un-bolt the transmission from the bellhousing/clutch assembly. Is this the right way? Does the engine just slide out of the tranmission when you pull it? Thanks for your help. This is my first time! |

Yes it is easier to pull the trans first. The motor with trans attached is quite long and bulky. Unbolting it at the trans is easier than removing the bellhousing, but the 833 is no lightweight. There is no real difficult part to the job as long as everything comes apart properly. You'll prolly have problems with the trans mount to frame bolts if you have one an impact with swivel 3/4 socket will do the trick. I pulled a setup just like what you're doing about 2 months ago and the trans mount was the only problem I had. If the truck sits too high for you hoist remember to flatten the front tires that way you have to lift the engine 6 inches less. Good luck |
