If the concord comes with a 258 (4.2L), most of those came with some kind of variant of the BBD in the early mills, and later a feedback carb...

You didn't say whether he had an auto and what he's running for rear gears (AMC usually is pretty close to mopar...)

If it's a 225-1V with Auto and 2.76 rear gearing the AMC may get you but by a nose... (the 4.2 and 4.0 mills like to rev up good in the mid range...my pastor's AMC Hornet- the 'pre concord' would keep up pretty well with my mom's 225 3 on the tree '68 Valiant from the stop light...)

Hmmm, good question. I don't tell most folks this, but my first car wuz a '74 AMC Hornet Sportabout wagon w/ 258 six. It had a pretty decent gear (like a 3.58 or something) and would actually get a pretty good wheel, but it was way hampered by the Carter YF one barrel carb. Didn't do many "go" mods to the party wag, just bought a '69 Road Runner as soon as I could. I've worked on and driven some late '70s Concords (same thing as Hornet, different name), and they were turds compared to my old wag, even with the two-barrel carb, probably because of super-thrifty lean tuning and highway gears.

So I say the Dart spanks the Concord, unless he hits the afterburners and goes supersonic... :P

Actually it was kind of interesting, it was at an intersection that has about 200 yards of 2 lane street then merges.... The pastor was about 50-ish and pulled up to the light and waved "Hi." to us (nice lutheran fellow he was...).
We were sitting there waiting for the green...noteably, mom doesn't like to sit behind the guy going 15 miles an hour under the speed limit when she's getting some place (the pastor tended to do this when his wife *WAS* in the car...this time he was alone and heading to take care of a couple of shut-ins)...

Anyhow, the 'guy above' must've needed some humor, cause the light turned green and the valiant purred right along and mom was going to get around him and keep going...much to her amazement the Hornet was neck in neck until mom decided to slow down and let the pastor by a couple of yards before the merge... The next Sunday during after services greeting we got this "what do you have in there a 273?"...

I actually wish I could have gotten the youth minister's red and white 1968 Javelin with the inline-6 (232? I think...)....

Well the tuned up 1bbl slant took the AMC with no problems. My friend is having some problems with off the line studdering that he is going to try and work out for a rematch.

He has ALOT of smog crap to deal with. Mine has none.

We will see what happens when he gets it running good.
