hey hows it goin guys i was looking up my other vin number on my other car 2 dr duster hard top and this is what come up do this mean it was made in 1966 thanks VL29C6G216739 vin# Model: Plymouth Valiant / Duster Price Class: Low Body Type: 2 Door Sports Hardtop Engine: Special Order 6 CYL Model Year: 1966 Assemble Plant: St. Louis, MO, USA Sequence Number: 216739 - 116739th Vehical Built IS THIS CORRECT thanks for your help guys |

VL29C6 is a '66 Valiant V100 with a special-order slant-6. What does "special order" mean? Well, there aren't a lot of things it can mean in '66. Does the car have factory A/C? (it's also fun to play with these VIN decoders and put together impossible cars. Put in VH45A9G216739 and see what you get back!) |

hey dan thanks for the website this is what it said for the vin# thanks VL29C6G216739 This vehicle is a 1966 Plymouth Valiant V-100 2-door Sports Hardtop, Special Order 6 engine and was the 116,739th car scheduled for production at the St. Louis, MO assembly plant. |

Well, the only nonstandard slant-6s available in '66 were heavy- and extraheavy-duty (which went mostly in trucks, though fleets could order heavy-duty engines) and taxi-econo (with smaller/leaner carburetor and different distributor). The export 2bbl setup didn't arrive until '67. So, what's special about your engine? |

man i don't know you know anybody who is in the expertise on this car i don't have a clue and i don't know why the engine is a special one might be a vin mistake at the factory don't know ANYBODY KNOW |

Bold added to quote. My guess since you said this is a Duster, that it's a 76, which means you need a decoder that covers that year. Here's two I found with a quick Google search:VL29C6G216739 vin# AutoHobbyDigest Mopar VIN decoder - covers from 1960-88. Mopar VIN Decoder - has four different decoders covering 1962-65, 1966-74, 1975-80, and 1981+. Tha AutoHobbyDigest one still indicates it is as special order /6, while the other seems to indicate it's just a regular 225 - maybe you have a Feather Duster? Steve G. |

ok here is another decoder this is what it says VIN VL29C6G216739 decodes as follows: Description Interpretation Code Model: Plymouth Valiant V Price Class: Low L Body Type: 2 door special coupe 29 Engine: 225ci slant 6 1bbl (RG motor) C Year: 1976 6 Assembly Plant: St. Louis, MO G Sequence Number: 216739 216739 and here is another decoder VIN: VL29C6G216739 YEAR: 1976 MODEL: Duster BODY: 2 door sports hardtop PLANT: St. Louis ENGINE: Special Order Slant Six DETAIL: Nth auto@plant: 116738 WARNINGS: so how come my engine is a special slant six beats me thanks guys for you help |

Oh, lookit that, I completely missed that we were talking about a Duster. Yep, both the VIN decoder you first used and the one I suggested go up to '75 only, AFAIK. And yes, "C" in the 5th digit means a 225 in '76. |
