Yeah, I know it's a lousy carbeurator, but I figured I'd give it a shot. I'm not swapping to a 2 barrel setup, and there aren't even any good rebuildable Carter cores at the junkyard. I've rebuilt a Rochester 2V and a Q jet before, is there any advice on rebuilding this Holley so that I won't have to do it again for a while?

Jon, save skin off your ass and get a 1920 or a carter BBS. Even properly rebuilt those 1945 are the worse piece of $#!+ ever built in the carburetor history.

Another option, if you have the patience to hunt down all the necessary pieces, is the ultra-scarce Djere-Qòf setup. This was Brazilian competition for the Argentine Penìn unit. Brazilian local-content laws and highly restrictive automotive part importation restrictions of the '60s and early '70s made US-style car carburetors an expensive option in the aftermarket, but there were no restrictions on importation of non-automotive engine parts, so the Djere-Qòf uses, believe it or not, six Briggs & Stratton Pulsa-Jet lawnmower-type carburetors. One carb per cylinder. The PJ carbs are easy to dial in, highly reliable, super easy to rebuild, and have a built-in automatic choke so there's no linkage hassle. Brazilian gasoline (the old "yellow gas") was very expensive, so Djere-Qòf was designed to give excellent economy while increasing performance.

The carbs are a dime a dozen, and have only gotten better over the years (except for those dumb plastic ones Briggs was selling in the '80s). Problem is, it is damn near impossible to find the manifold and throttle linkage "octopus".

The worst carbeurator ever was the Ford Variable Venturi, hands down.

Hey.
I thought that you guys couldn't know about the brazilian manifold... they made about 500 units of that thing.
They work great. I have owned one that I set up with italian motorcycle carbs (dellorto). They were more peppy than the original lawnmwer one but the tradeoff was the choke thingy.
I sold it to a slant six Racer from brazil named Jacobo Mëof. I lost contact with old jake but I bet he still has that rare piece.
As much as I hate to admit, the DjereQof worked way better than the penin and got better mileage. Had a very lush powerful bottom.

Jon, I've got several rebuildable 1920 carbs lying around from my dual carb setup days. I think several run fine, but I've not tested them. let me know if you want one

Even better than a Holley, Carter BBS.

Anybody ever tried putting a Rochester Monojet on a Slant. I have a new one still in the box.

Even DW agrees that 1920's are better than BBS's.... anyway either of those would kick 1945's ass.
