| Post subject: | Petronix or Dual Points better for drag racing? |
As I mentioned before, I'm building a slant six to run nostagila drags. I can't use electornic ignition, so I'm thinking either dual points or Petronix. Which will be perform better and which will be more trouble free? Thanks. |

I used to have points - But I wanted the stock look - So I used the pertronix system in my car - No orange or blue box to mess up "the look". No problems with it - Prably have 50-60 runs on it turned 15.25s' Petronix is essentially eletronic ignition, so I do not know if your rules will allow it. Greg |

Do check the rules carefully before you decide. Pertronix is electronic ignition. If you decide to go to dual points, I think I have a new-in-box Mallory dual-point distributor... |

Lou, I had an old mallory unit - but it started to leak oil, so I trashed it and bought one of the mopar perf. coils - They are black with no lettering, so they look stock, but the guts are the same as the MSD Blaster 2. Greg |

Thanks Greg and all. I have one on my V racecar and am turning it to about 5000-5200 now with a stock coil. Pertronix should be OK there. I may upgrade coils or try back-to-back drag runs with an MSD. Lou |

I turned 6200 with That mopar perf coil - No problems. Until the clutch blew... McLoed Should be at my door today! Greg |

Thanks again, Greg. I'll be interested to hear about your McLeod parts. I just acquired a Weber Alum flywheel and want to put an updated clutch on it. Spin them hides... Lou |

Lou, Is that a custom part? or do they stock them. Is that the weber clutch people? Do you have contact info / part #'s Please share.. The McLeod f-wheel is billet steel - about same weight as stock - I plan to do a lot of street driving with it as well, and it's SFI approved - one less thing to explode on me! Greg |

Greg, It's an old new-in-box Weber unit I got off an Ebay guy. He must have bought out a speed shop or something. Doesn't know what all he has yet. I've told him to keep me posted on similar parts he finds and I'll let you know. Cameron Tilley pointed me at an auction, and I PM'ed the guy. Search "weber flywheel" on Ebay and he might have something there. I should be receiving it in a couple of days and can post more details. It's actually for a 273, so needs one hole redrilled. Lou |
