I feel your pain! It's feels like walking a rope without a net.
I once pulled the valve body out of a hyundai. Talk about lots of bolts and springs and wires and .... yuck, but I got though it and I managed to get it back together, although I didn't find the problem.
If you think a 904 is intimidating, don't even look at a hyundai! Either way, don't look at a hyundai.

Here is how I did it my first transmission:
Start with some extra clean rags and a roll of paper towels, take pictures, get a tape measure, draw a diagram of the valve body , label the length of each bolt as you remove them on your diagram, buy some of those disposable little plasic food containers with lids to put stuff in so nothing rolls away. Number things and take pictures of assemblys. Work in the most clean and organized way possible from the start. Don't take any shortcuts, don't rush yourself, and you will surely be able to get back to at least as good as when you started. You are a leg up on my Hyundai project, because you know what you will be trying to fix once you've got it apart.
I've got a manual with lots of pictures (if emailing them might help you) and the 904 is about the most common transmission for a mopar. If you really do get stuck, we'll be able to offer answers.

It's actually easy the second time. You'll laugh when you go back and read this post and see how it was not as bad as you thought it would be.
