What brand/ type pistons are you guys running with NOS? Looking for a set for a motor with .030 over bore. Who makes them?, Who has them, and are they even around? What NOS set ups are being used, and which are the best to use for around 100HP shots on the Slant six? Thanks, Brian

The Cox Bros can fix you up with a set of forged Venolia pistons that would be my choice. I think J E makes forged pistons for the 2.2 engine but you would have to bore something about 55 thousands. The 2.2 piston will fit on the rod at the same height cool. Thanks Ron :D

dennis, when you say cast pistons will do, are you saying they will hold up for a long time, or is it something that you should be planning on a rebuild after a season of racing. Reason I ask is I currently have a 72 dart swinger with around 10.5:1 compression a 570 lift 310 dur. cam, edelbrock 600 carb with .30 over cast pistons. running to a 4sp w/over drive and to an 8 3/4 with 4.30 gears. this is in a licensed and inspected street car that see's a fair amount of street use. I was seriously thinking about going with nitrous, but was afraid to without having a forged bottom end. I would like to some day, but money wont allow that right now. So if I keep plenty of fuel to it and watch the timing, would the engine be able to handle a 100shot without an instant,(or almost instant) failure?? I've already had to pull the engine 3 times in the past year for oil pump gear problems, and a few other issues, and I would like to be able to drive the car a little before it fly's apart again. I'm not afraid to take some risks, but I know you've worked with nitrous for a while now, and you would have a good Idea as to what I should do. as you can tell by the cam spec/ rear gears its not exactly a great daily driver, but my goal is to drive to the race track, smoke many v8's and drive back home. any suggestions would be really appreciated.
Thanks,
Ryan

Nitrous is not as hard on parts as people think IF you keep it out of detonation and lean fuel situations. I was running 100 shot last year on KB hyperteutectic pistons. I pulled the motor down over the winter and it looked like brand new inside.

Get your tune-up wrong and even forged pistons are toast.

Right now I am spraying 150 on the same KB pistons and 198 rods. Will I hear a big boom shortly? Maybe.

The worst part about nitrous is that 100 shot will get boring quickly.

Other than our three time runs together at Clay City I don't think that we have ever raced together on a hot run.

Looking back i think you are right. Now I got to sort out all the Bagel Bamboozlers that is going on the car next year. Some of this racing stuff i have had all year but did not have time to install it. It looks like that Vortex supercharger would be a nice piece. It is basicaly a belt driven turbocharger ie centrifugal charger. Talked to tech and said it could do 22 lbs of boast on my car. I was realey looking foward to Indy but it did not work out. Your Redneck Friend Possum :D
