Post subject:  a few questions about edelbrock 500 tuning

I've just changed the jets of my edel. carb

primary 83 jets secondary 86

metering rods .067 x .055 with the blue springs which are the weakest ones


with my vacuum gauge it shows nothing at idle
and I get a max of 10 hg when I raise the throttle

acording to the edelbrock manual this will go from the stock calibration
12% leaner in cruise and 12% in power mode

now after I did this and it really really woke my car up ...now its doing burnouts like there's no tommorow

I am wondering what this thing will do when I'll put the cam and some gears in it :twisted:

It cruise nicely but there are still a few bogs when I push the throttle slowly and gradually in
anyone might have a solution???
I've changed the springs with the yellow one but remains the same

I was thinking of putting the 86 jets in the prim. and 83 in the sec. to see what it will do???

I have mine with the metering rods .067 x .055 only. This is 4% lean.
I have a MP 268 .460 lift cam and headers. I may go to the 8% lean and see what happens. Right now my plugs are tan, which I think is right on. I have the orange spring in.
The bogs could be too much gas 'cause of the light springs you're using. I would try orange.
I don't know how much difference the cam makes, but it sounds like you are doing better than I was before I got my cam.

Ive found that when you can decide when accel pump is kickin in, dialing it to kick in a lil late (meaning, not when you barely feather the pedal) gives excellents results. This is for auto trans vehicles. I guess that the stream of gas going in the minute she's trying to get off the idle circuit and starting drinkin' from the mains is the effect I looked for. This works greats IE if you're trying to park you barely touch the gas pedal, but if you're driving your "light" throttle is diffrent from the "just moving the car" light throttle pressure. I set my 2300's accel pump with a 0.015" gap.

Oh yeah: all this yatta yatta is referring to the "bog"

my cam is about similar to yours but with 490 lift

I might be confused here or wrong but wouldn't the weaker springs give you a leaner mixture ??? as a stronger spring would raise the metering rod sooner as manifold vacuum drops???

about the jets those are the smaller ones available in the calibration kit :(
I am getting smaller ones 8)

Stiffer springs means the enrichment kicks in sooner, at a lower vacuum. Too stiff, and the rods may not stay in the jets well at idle if it is a big cam with low idle vacuum. You can run the engine with the plates off and observe for this, but you will have to guide the pistons into position after you get it started, or hold them in with your fingers and have an assistant start the car or start it remotely.

I understand your difficulty with the small jet availability. What I do is solder up extra jets and redrill them with precision wire drill bits.
