Ok guys ive got my 2 barrel manifold all cleaned up and ready to paint..any suggestions other than engine paint?..Secondly there are obviously a few more hoses etc on the manifold than were on the one barrel set up. Is there a pic somewhere that shows where they all should go or where they should be plugged off. Its going on a 170 in a 64 valiant. Any suggestions would be appreciated...thanks in advance..Mark

If you want paint other than engine paint, I've used epoxy paint made by VHT (available from Jegs and Summit, perhaps locally as well). Its supposed to take high temps up to 700 or 900 degrees. Very tough stuff and looks nice. Kinda pricey at $8/can or so.

Why not use hi temp enamel?

"Chrysler red" as sold by Mopar, Krylon and others tends not to be a very good match with factory-painted parts on mid-'60s slant-6s. I've gotten very good matches with NAPA's "Farm Equipment Spray Paint", in International-Harvester Red.

On the manifold? Or on the carburetor itself? The manifold will have an EGR valve at the outboard end (driver's side) below the carburetor mounting surface; this can (and for use on your '64, should) be blocked off. The cleanest way to do so is with a blockoff plate; these occasionally show up on eBay. You may want to send Textoad a private message here on the board; he made his own blockoff plate. Alternatively (not as clean) you can remove the EGR valve and turn it 180° before reinstalling it. That provides an equally leakproof disable of the EGR, but looks kinda schlock.

The only other place you'd find hoses on your manifold would be on the rearmost runner, attached to a screwed-in fitting. Simply remove this fitting and replace it with the threaded plug that's on the rearmost runner of your existing 1bbl intake.

Are you all set up to convert your '64 from its present rod-operated throttle setup to the cable type needed to use the factory 2bbl intake and carb? You'll need a new accelerator pedal, throttle cable, trans kickdown linkage, etc.

There were also some of the two barrel manifolds that have two of these ports in the rear most runner, I believe. As for a figure for hose routing, there have been several posted here in the past, try to do a quick search on this forum. or provide a few photos of the carb and someone can give you an idea what should be routed to where.

thanks to all that answered. I am still looking for all of the linkage to convert. I wasnt sure if there was a way to use my existing linkage or not but from what you say there must not be. Not much in the junkyards here anymore for slant six stuff..will any v8 linkage work?

A V8 A-body throttle cable will work, and you can use a cable-type gas pedal from pretty much anything ('64-'66 V8 or '65-'66 factory-A/C 6-cylinder A-body only if you want it to look original) but as for the linkage brackets and linkage itself, you must get it all from a 2bbl slant-6 car.
