Post subject:  Voltage Limiter

I have a 66 Valiant Wagon and from reading past posts I believe the voltage limiter is bad. The car has been sitting a long time and temp and fuel guages do not work. In the engine comparment, to the right of the voltage regulator is a part that looks like a voltage limiter. It's an RPM 2291438 and has three terminals marked H, B and S. Can anyone confirm what this is?

Thanks for the help.

If it is the same as my 66 Barracuda, I believe that is the horn relay.

The voltage limiter is on the back of the dashboard. It's a cylinder about the diameter of a dime and about 1" long with a single wire coming out of one end of it.

If I'm mistaken someone please chime in.

You are correct, that stops the horn working.

Thanks for the help!

Post subject:  Found the problem

I started to remove the instrument panel to get to my voltage limiter and when I removed my ignition switch I noticed a black wire that was not connected to the socket. Soldering the wire back on solved the problem.

I remember a while back the ignition switch was loose. I probably twisted it just enough break that connection. I hope this helps if someone in the future is trying to fix a faulty temp/fuel gauge problem.

That's a good example of why we need to troubleshoot before swapping parts! You could have chased that gremlin for miles ....
Good job!
