The mini starter used on late 80s and up vans/trucks works great. Any 3.9V6 or V8 starter will work. Wrecking yard is a good source, or rebuilds from parts store.

Yep. All V8s (BB and SB), 3.9L V6 and Slant starters will interchange.

any real responses?

The mini starters I mentioned are pretty much all the same (minor heatshield diffs) and are light and reliable. As with any unit, watch quality if you get a rebuild. I have bought mine new from MP sources and have had no problems. They are better than the factory starters in every way, except the cute noise...

how much did it cost you?

Post subject:  cost

These are either $129.95 or 139.95 from summit racing equipment.
A rebuilt one fom the parts store really isn't much if any bit cheaper.
They weigh a mere 7 pounds vs. the weight of about a 16 or 17 pound
starter if Im not mistaken. I weighed my stock starter and that's about
what I came up with. Thanks again Lou.

I havd been using the re-man ones from checker(big wheel rossi at the time) and they were $35, but they only lasted an average of six months when it was a daily driver.
