I am getting some fumes inside the car.

My first guess is the intake/exhaust manifold gasket. Is there a way to detect leaks? I once heard of dumping some ATF in the carb while it was running, then you could see the smoke if it was leaking. I don't like the idea of dumping something other than gas in the carb.

Is there any gasket that is recommended for good sealing? I have an Offy intake and Clifford headers.

Any other things I should look at? My exhaust has turn downs at the end of the mufflers. Would it help to have the pipes run all the way over the axles to the rear of the car? It seems like I get the smell in front of me while driving.

I am swapping heads, so I hope to remedy this problem in the process.

Thanks for any advice! :)

Your problem is the muffler turn-downs. You have to have a pretty bad leak at the engine before you'll start noticing it in the car. You'd hear it, believe me.

Where does your crankcase breather vent out? If it does not go into the air cleaner, you might very well smell it.
