Post subject:  Gasoline Evaporation........

Been searching the internet, but can't seem to find the answer.........

How many gallons/month am I losing to evaporation?????????

Car is a 64 without any evaporation control, and is outside....... (not primary car, so there can be a month or longer between fillups)

Variables would be tank size, temperature, time, fuel blend (summer/winter)......

A related question would be for charcoal canisters.... they would help until they're saturated (how long does that take???)

I wouldn't be as concerned for evaporation as I would be for fuel loosing octane rating as it sits for long periods. I think that factor might be worse since lower octane gas makes less power and you mpg sinks....
Also with modern fuel formulation, I would be concerned about all the rubber/synt components in the fuel sys, including your float if it's plastic.

Assuming the fuel system is in good shape and capped properly, the answer is "not enough to worry about", unless the "or longer" part of your time between fills is very much longer (5 months?) in which case you'd need to worry not so much about fuel loss but fuel deterioration and its effects.

A long time. Remember, the activated charcoal in the cannister isn't expected to hold onto the fuel vapor forever, just when the engine's not running. And when the system cools down (e.g. at night), some of the vapors would be drawn back off the cannister. But your '64 hasn't got one...!
