 Post subject: rough idle/stalling

My car has had a rough idle for a while. Which didn't bother me until it stalled out twice one morning. She ran great with gas but as soon as I slowed down for a red light the engine just went silent. :? Started right back up however, just step on the pedal and turn the key.

I am assuming this is a fuel problem. However, if it is ignition related I have noted my alternator guage.

When she idles in drive the alternator indicator is on the negative side. It runs dead center when driving.

When she idles in neutral the alternator guage is dead center.

Could it be my idle speed is too low?

Carb is a newly remanned Holley 1945. Fuel filter is new. Gas tank was just cleaned out for rust deposits. Gas tank 1/2 full at time of problem.

Idle speed on a 75 is

800 manaul
750 automatic (neutral or park)

Hook a voltmeter up to it so you know what the actual charging system voltage is. The ampmeter just lets you know what the alt is doing not how much voltage is in the system.

The Holley 1945 was a poor carburetor even when brand new. Once it has been grossly abused by the "remanufacturers", it gets much worse.

I would hazard a guess that both of your issues (this rough idle as well as the warm engine starting issue) are related to your new carb. I realize you posted these issues at two different times but it may help if you post all the symptoms you are experiencing together, this may help some of the guys here piece together a more complete picture of what is going on with your car.

Edit, I just realize the dieseling post you had previously posted as well (the one that got a little off topic). I think you need to consolidate the information into one post try to provide all the information you can and the changes that you have made as it seems there are several things going on with your engine.

Don't forget the simple stuff. A vacumn leak from slightly loose mounting nuts (carb to manifold), or a loose vac hose, could be the problem. My Dart was stalling and such a few weeks ago, advancing the timing has made it run like a new slant again.
