I appreciate that 68 folks looked at my question re. 833OD and hydraulic throwout bearing and probably gave the matter some thought. Hey, if it was clear and easy we woulda known the answer! So, on to the engineering group at Howe. They told me that their bearing is designed to fit on the 1 3/8 machined shoulder between the "stem" and the "upward curve" part of the bearing retainer. What you are supposed to do is measure down from a flat edge placed on top of the retainer bolt heads and see if the distance down to the face of the transmission is .800. If not, you are supposed to shim the bolts up with washers, and use a supplied shim set to create a flat bed between the washers and the back of the bearing. That way, no wobble and complete body support. Incidentally with a good micrometer my shaft shoulder is not 1 3/8, it is 1.381. I found the Howe and Quartermaster are both 1.400 to create tolerance. From one who can't rest til he gets the answer...
