need advice /ideas(1962 valiant auto tranny) just swapped a 50k 1965 225 for a 170 motor problem-- 225 does not idle smoothly or accelerate smoothly-- intermitant misses I have adjusted valve 2x-- .010 intake .020 exhaust running- doubled checked firing order & plug wires-- they are correct 153624 swapped carbs to little or no effect plugs are autolite 65's & are clean (almost too clean- too hot-heat range?) petronix dist-- vacuum gauge holds steady but at approx 15 my next step is to do a compression check I sprayed carb cleaner all over & found no leaks(also misted the chambers with water & tranny fluid) I'm using the carter carb auto tranny -which seems to shift ok open to suggestions/ ideas |

If the chain were to slip one tooth, would that give those symptoms? |

In my experience, any timing chain slippage, even one tooth renders the engine inoperable for all practical purposes. Sometimes they will start and run but will not have enough power to pull themselves out of their own tracks. |
