Doc- I know you ran an early B body rear (1" wider) in your late great
68 BCuda race car. I'm installing an early B into my 69 Dart and having
trouble spreading the springs enough to get the axle to set down on the
"nipples" on the springs. Can I drill or file out the perches?
If the springs are spread some, will it affect straightline performance at
a track. I have the rear over the springs now and really don't want to take it out again to have the perches moved unless I must.

Well, I never heard from anyone (and I guess I should have posted in
wheels, brakes etc.) but I did get some responses on moparts,
one of which scared me enough to go ahead and cut off the perches and
reweld them, That person said he had had a B body rear in an A where
they had spread the springs with a pipe to get the rear in, and it would
never go down the track straight.
I decided it was not worth it to take that kind of a chance, so I moved them. Took maybe 4 hours to do it.
It took

I put an Aspen 3.23 rear in my A body 74 Scamp and had to cut off the perches. I bought some new ones and rewelded them on myself. I suspect the welding is to hold them in place long enough to bolt the springs in place. With careful measuring you should be able to get the new perches in the right position. Then, once the shackels are bolted in place nothing should move. Not sure what an Aspen body is but it's not a B body.. But it should work for you. Good Luck.
