Post subject:  gems in the rough

About 2 months ago my brother mentioned to me that a 65 b-cuda had taken up residence behind a local used car lot. This morning I was hanging out at his house and he asked if I had gone and looked at it. Nope I says. Well we drove over and took a peak. It took all of 1 second for me to say that is a barracuda but that's a 66 a 65 would have the same rev lights as my valiants. I took a quick look through the fence and from what I saw it is a relatively complete 66 minus a windshield. Are 66 windshields the same as 65. We got back to his place and my brother made a call it seems the car was bought sight unseen by the owner of the car lot and he was most dissapointed in it and wants to rid himself of it. Here's the best part the guy on the phone doesn't know anything about it except it has 13" wheel LH lugnuts and a V8. I was able to see the floor shift auto through the fence. Whats one of these worth? I'm well aware fo the problem areas t-bar crossmember(bang, car leans), leaf spring mount(spring hits the groceries in the trunk), and UCA mounts(wheel breaks off whoppee), and floor boards (your foot hits the exhaust and melts your shoe). The guy on the phone said it was supposed to run when it was parked and I've done the lazurus act on other old mopes before but the only cudas I've ever handled were the E-bodies (too heavy no fun). Any recs on cuda specific stuff. If I got the car it would be built up to be a driver not a resto. Oh yeah the guy spent 800 on it so that is prolly what the price would be. Thanks in advance.

All '63-'66 A-body windshields are the same, NAGS number DW-625.

The only "Cuda-specific stuff" is body and trim related. Mechanically they are 100% 1966 Valiant.

Sounds like a decent start for a project if it's solid enough to rescue.

Post subject:  I don't like horses

I went over to look at the b-cuda up close from the right side of the fence today. The side of the car facing the fence is the passenger side it's not bad. The 1/4 panel is mud from the lower body line down but that isn't exactly unexpected. The wheel lips are still metal that suprised me. The driver side and trunk are a different story. I heard more of the story behind the car. The previous owner drove it into a pasture and let it sit for 5-6 years. The problem with that is that there were horses in the pasture. The horses broke the windshield and left quarter glass, destroyed the trunk lid, bent the cowl panel, and left hoof marks on various spots of most of the car. Amazingly both doors are still straight and I didn't find any mud with my weak magnet. The car has a blue engine in it with the red water pump from its original 273. I was not able to find a engine size on the block I couldn't get under it enough to see it. But it's not a 273 hyd lifters and smog era egr intake with bbd 2bbl looks like an internal balance balancer so I think 318 is most likely. It can be turned over by hand. Structurally it is quite sound surface rust but nothing important in the rear the t-bar mount is solid. The entire car was undercoated at the factory and the remains of the hood insulator are still hanging off the clips. The only rust through in the floor anywhere is the spare tire well. Also it is a ps at ac car. The compressor is missing but the car is mostly there.
I've decided to pass on it $800 is too much for another project that has been battered and abused. It might make a good project/parts car for someone else so I'm included the # of the car lot so you can inquire if you desire. The lot is in decatur IL and the # is 1-217-429-3685

I left something out yesterday. The insturment cluster has a vacuum gauge in it. There is a speedo, vac, oil, fuel, temp, and ammeter. They all look perfectly original and they all match each other. The speedo even has a trip odo and about 7000 miles showing. Whether it is 107, 207 or higher is anyones guess.
