I was out looking at my 62 Valiant today and saw that it has a bit more rust than I realized, all along the lower part of both quarter panels frant and behind the wheel well. I'm wondering if it won't be best to just replace the quarters on both sides. Are there any good solid 60 - 62 a-bodies in junkyards within say a days drive of Phoenix? Anyone know af any and any idea what a decent quarter panel will cost if it can even be found. The alternative is to shape some sheet metal and weld it in which I don't think I want to try.

Growing older is unavoidable but growing up is strictly optional.

Brand new repair panels can be had for the '60-'62 cars. They come from Australia, so shipping would be a bit of a hassle, but they're available and new.

Funny you should mention that... Just today I got confirmation from Blue Star Spares in Australia that they have the small tail light support panel so I ordered it; that is the panel on my car that has the most collision damage so it goes a long way toward solving my problems. A reasonably skilled body tech should be able to fabricate patches for the rusty sections but it would be a lot easier to have replacement panels. Blue Star also said, however, that they don't have any other sheetmetal. Quarters would be problematic anyway because of their size.

Interesting; I am sure I've seen extensive rust repair panels listed somewhere out of Australia. Let me do some digging and see if I can turn it up. Kind of surprised Blue Star hasn't got 'em; they've got dang near everything else!

I did some digging of my own after my last post. Pentastar Restoration lists them in their catalog but gives no details or pricing... they're kind of hard to find at first glance. There's another place that lists them too at $52.00 each - I'm assuming that's US$ but if it's Australian currency so much the better. The panels are "rust repair sections" which are just a strip along the lower part of the panel but I can't tell if they fit in front of the wheelwell or behind it, I need both on both sides. I suppose whatever I can't find can be fabricated but I don't have the tools for working sheetmetal so I would have to take it to a body shop. I might just do that anyway, even it I can find all the panels I need.
